Kwanzaa at the African American Museum
The newly renovated African American Museum of Nassau County in Hempstead is hosting a free community Kwanzaa celebration noon-5 p.m. Dec. 29.
If you have a little one who likes playing with dolls, playing with hair or working on mosaics, come down from noon-2 p.m. and a guest artist will show your child different braiding techniques. If you're not into the hair thing, you can take part in assembling the musuem’s new 4.5-foot by 6-foot mosaic.
There also will be music, refreshments, storytelling and performances. “We’ll have people telling traditional and original stories of Kwanzaa,” says director and curator David Byre-Tyer. The Kwanzaa program and candlelighing is from 3-5 p.m. “All you need to bring is your imagination, we’ll supply everything else.”
The museum is at 110 N. Franklin Street (516-572-0730, aamoflongisland.org).
