Bread & Butter Bistro held its grand opening on March 14, and then stayed open for a grand 68 hours straight. A business stunt perhaps? Not at all, as this new restaurant and bar will be ready to serve customers around the clock Thursday thru Saturday every week, all 24 hours each of those days.
Located at the Holtsville Ramada Hotel in the space formerly home to Yogi’s All American Grill and Sports Bar, Bread & Butter features a change in personality from the “go-team-go” banners and framed action-shot photos of what was Yogi’s -- and now works a trendy look. The ceiling is tiled with antique tin; the walls are brick-patterned and colored black-and-white, reflecting a subdued, almost clubby glow under the warmth of dim neon lighting. The room is otherwise similar in its basic form to what was in place at Yogi’s: a right-angle of dining tables on the main level, surrounding an elevated bar with flat screen TVs hoisted behind its mantle. There are more TVs placed around the room’s lower walk as well, so anyone – including the many guests that stay at this busy hotel – can still come by and get a look at the day’s big televised athletic contests.
As for nightlife, at this early stage the only regular attraction is live acoustic music on Friday nights, but for those who are out late on weekends, there is food served during all open hours – which adds a new wrinkle to the usual after-3 a.m. selection of fast-food, disco fries at a diner or microwaved convenience store noshes LI mostly offers. However, for those who may have hoped there would be a possible 24-hour bar possibility, the liquor laws of New York State still apply – so while the doors may be open at 5:30 a.m. on a Saturday for food, the beer and cocktails will have to wait until (at least) the legal serving hours.
