Long Island is no stranger to having celebrity DJs and musicians play area clubs. But on Saturday, the man who is arguably the biggest name in the current world of party music will be in Southampton to spin.
If you've been to a nightclub anytime during the past decade, it is very likely that you've heard at least one song featuring Lil Jon. An MC, DJ and producer from Atlanta, Lil Jon (AKA Jonathan Smith) has been a part of the hip-hop world since the late 1990s. His efforts, as part of former act Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz, as a lead performer and in collaboration with artists like Usher, LMFAO and Fat Joe have resulted in several tracks DJs swear by (“Shots,” “The Anthem,” “Yeah,” “Snap Yo Fingers” and “Turn Down for What,” among others) when trying to raise the energy level on a dance floor. Jon’s style is “crunk” (a slang word with a nebulous meaning, often used to describe a Southern-born, fast-moving, repetitive kind of hip-hop), and his music is most recognized by his aggressive chanting of words or phrases over wild, infectious electronic beats in order to generate excitement – and it works, as his music tends to whip up crowds.
Lil Jon’s success is not just limited to the United States, as he will be appearing live in Toronto, NYC, Las Vegas, Mykonos (Greece), Nice (France), Beirut (Lebanon) and South Padre Island in Texas – all between the date of this writing and Sept. 1. But even with that hectic schedule, he'll also be hosting and spinning at 1 OAK in Southampton on Saturday (Aug. 16).
Naturally, as 1 OAK is usually a crowded spot on Saturdays anyway, it’s a solid bet that the club will be seeing an especially massive turnout, considering Lil Jon’s popularity. So interested parties should probably make reservations in advance. Table service is the most efficient way to gain entrance to 1 OAK; make reservations by calling 631-204-5433 or emailing email@example.com.
