For some, karaoke is a fun thing to do on occasion, an activity to take part in with friends as you all take cracks singing popular songs you sort-of know.
And for others, karaoke is nothing less than a way of life.
If you relate to the latter – if you are one of the many proud warbling warriors who practices all week, going over new songs and then spending hours staking out turn after turn to dazzle the house with your takes on hit music, you may find this party to be of great personal importance.
Tonight, karaoke stars can ditch the DJ and sing with their own rock band. Well, it won't be your band, per se, but one will be waiting on the stage starting at 9 p.m. at Kodiak's Restaurant and Bar in Farmingdale.
Much as with regular karaoke, you'll have to choose your song from a set selection, but that's where the similarities end. Instead of the usual mic-over-canned-tracks experience, you can go for a true rock-star moment, letting loose your inner Mick Jagger (or Justin Bieber, we suppose). Should your star turn not strike the right chords, you can be gonged off the stage early. But worry not: Everyone who tries gets to spin a wheel to win a prize before heading back to their table.
There's no cover to sing. Just arrive and take turns like at any other karaoke event. In addition to the live music, there will be board games and beer pong -- not to mention the two large bars and bustling crowd that populate Kodiak on a regular basis. Even if your favorite way to enjoy a karaoke night is to simply watch -- or invoke your own inner Simon Cowell and judge while other people go for it -- this night should suit you just fine.
