Looks like September for Silk (or something)

Customers attend the opening night of Silk in Hauppauge. In 2011, the club became one of Long Island's largest venues to regularly allow guests between 18 and 20 years old, and the response remains strong as clubgoers form long lines to get into Silk every night it's open.

It was late February when word started to spread: Silk Ultralounge in Hauppauge was closing down for renovations.

A strange occurrence for many to imagine, as this venue had been drawing younger crowds (average age 21-30) on a regular basis – from the long lines to get in to the bustling sidewalk patio, indications were Silk was going strong, rather than going away.

But away it went, with little more than details that there would be a name-change and a possible reopening in a couple of months, which would have been April-May. Now, with June already a week old, the doors have remained closed and although there is obvious construction activity, there has been little word on what may come next or when.

However, back on May 18, a cartoon stating “Coming Soon” arrived on the club’s Facebook page – followed by a comment from Silk announcing an opening in September of an “all-new” spot for people 25-and-older.

Some time passed, then last night (Thursday, June 7) at around 11 p.m., a new tidbit popped up – and this one exclaimed the venue had just put down $50,000 worth of new porcelain flooring, again mentioning the new intended age of admission.

A phone call to the building was met with a message that the number was “temporarily disconnected.” The website is also devoid of any new details, so it looks like Facebook (facebook.com/LIclubs) will be the way to track the arrival of the next lounge that will call the hall at 573 Nesconset Hwy. home (as have such now-defunct clubs as Bianco Ultralounge, Viper Bar and Wall Street).
