He’s been known as “Mankind” and as “Cactus Jack,” but for the most part, people call him “Mick.”
Michael Francis Foley -- aka Mick Foley -- once made a local splash playing various sports as a member of Ward Melville High School’s Class of 1983 -- but as a professional wrestler, Foley became an international celebrity. Under his various pseudonyms, he won matches, tournaments and championships (despite losing an ear) -- and as of 2013 became a member of World Wrestling Entertainment’s WWE Hall of Fame -- but has also done work as a comedian, writer, spokesman, actor and activist.
However, he still remains mostly identified as a wrestler, and for admirers that would like to catch up with Foley, he'll be appearing at Jonas E. Salk Middle School in Levittown on Friday, April 11, as part of a function featuring both meet-and-greets and actual body slams.
Billed as a fundraiser for the Lee Road Elementary School P.T.A. (levittownschools.com/lee), it will give interested parties a chance to get an autograph and a photo with Mick, as well as with fellow former wrestling stars Jake “The Snake” Roberts and Matt Hardy. In addition, the gathering is scheduled to include live matches with competitors working under the banner of the Big Time Wrestling professional wrestling organization.
Prices range in accordance with desired attractions (autographs are $25 each, with photo $40; general admission tickets are $15 each); for more information and ticket purchase, visit big-time-wrestling.com. Signing start at 6 p.m.; matches kick off at 7:30 p.m.
