As of Saturday, Oct. 20, Molto Vino has finally arrived in Babylon Village.
The wait for its opening was a point of discussion among people who regularly enjoy the vibrant scene on Deer Park Avenue, as the sign for the now-open wine and cheese osteria has been hanging next to the Solo Vino Wine Boutique (43 Deer Park Ave., 631-983-8274) since at least February. In fact, when neighboring Monsoon Asian Kitchen and Lounge (48 Deer Park Ave., Babylon, 631-587-4400) opened its doors across the street on Feb. 23, several of the guests noted the sign with interest.
Due to construction, Molto's birth was slow. But in an impeccable move, the doors opened just in time for the Babylon Village Street Fair. With hundreds of people walking Deer Park Avenue, which was closed to traffic for the fair, the small, fresh venue quickly filled to capacity.
The decor is simple, with a mostly white interior spiced with racks of bottles, plus a couple of small, wooden tables. As expected, wine is the main attraction, a perfect fit as the Solo Vino sister shop is right next door. (The two establishments share a business card.) Anyone looking for a recommended selection to sip can just check out the mirror behind the bar where there are lists for red and white options.
The menu is still developing, but while cheese is the advertised main dish, a conversation with a bartender revealed salads and sandwiches are to join the fromage as featured foods.
As for nightlife, the store is zoned for solo (no pun intended) musicians to play from 3 p.m. to midnight daily. The place looks promising for quick bites, meet-ups, dates and conversation. This is a go-to block for oenophiles. It is already busy with Barrique Kitchen and Wine Bar (69 Deer Park Ave., 631-321-1175) only a stroll down the street.
