Although Montauk in the summer has (in recent years) morphed from a quiet break away from the Hamptons crush into a hipster-acceptable/ jet set-visited/ surfer's paradise, when it comes to the winter months, the town easily reverts to the unaffected state it used to enjoy all year. Although the Manhattan chic are still months away from arrival, one event that's always been popular on the Island is gearing up for another big show: the Annual Montauk Friends of Erin St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Starting at 10 a.m. on Sunday, March 25, this year the procession marks its 50th occurrence, and is expected to bring in a crowd of approximately 40,000 attendees – a solid attendance, especially when the entire town population is less than 5,000.

Surely fun for families, this year also includes a special package for singles offered by Gurney's Inn Resort & Spa that just happens to allow for an especially full parade experience.

The deal is available March 23 to 25 for $350 a guest. It allows for two nights’ accommodations, daily activities and the seawater spa facilities. Furthermore, while the parade is on the 25th, Gurney’s will host the Grand Marshall’s Luncheon at noon through 3 p.m. on Friday, March 23, where this year’s pageant host Mickey Valcich (of “Mickey’s Carting,” “Mickey’s Montauk Mowing,” and a member of the Montauk Fire Department) will be formerly introduced, roasted and given his parade sash, top hat and shillelagh.

There are more precursory parties on Saturday as well, as The Friends of Erin Gala Cocktail Party is set for 4 p.m. to  8 p.m., and also being held at the Inn. Featuring a buffet, open bar, raffle and live music (from band The 3 B’s), this event is a parade fundraiser, and will be followed by a 9 p.m. show at Gurney’s “Port O' Call” bar by frequently-working Hamptons band Joe Delia and the Thieves.

Reservations are requested to attend the Grand Marshall’s Luncheon, with tickets available for $40 (and include a meal). For more information, call 631-668-2257, email or check

Tickets for the Erin Gala are $60 in advance, $75 at the door, and can be purchased by calling 631-668-1578 or at the 1.3613076. For more information, email or visit
