The crowd and lights at Aura Sound & Light Suite in East Meadow – a club that was formerly home to The Savannah, gone after seven busy years (2004-2011). Another major venue that disappeared was The Crazy Donkey of Farmingdale, closing down after almost 10 years (2002-2011). Live band fans were concerned with The Donkey's departure in September – as it was one of Long Island’s top spaces for live music. But just as it checked out, the Paramount concert hall opened in Huntington the same month. Huntington also saw the arrival of Huntington Social (in the second-story space that once held Chesterfields), while the large, upscale eatery and lounge Insignia opened in Smithtown at the end of November 2011. And remember the Malibu nightclub in Lido Beach? The Maliblue Oyster Bar opened behind the long-dormant Malibu building in Lido Beach during the summer – and as for Malibu itself? There are rumors the monstrous club will reopen after a 15-year slumber, but Long Island will just have to wait until sometime in 2012 to see …

Ordinarily, when A-list DJs come to the Island, each receives an event of their own -- selling out tickets, creating long lines and generating buzz among the dance music-supporting community. For the many who relish when selectors like Hex Hector, Jonathan Peters, Victor Calderone and Miss Jennifer (all known as major draws on the NYC scene and anywhere else they arrive to weave sessions of big club beats) make their occasional visits, it’s often considered a worthy gathering. But come Thursday, April 5, all of those star mixers will be at Aura Light & Sound Suite in the East Meadow Shopping Center – at the same time – to make this “worthy gathering” work for an even more worthy cause.

It’s being called “Music For Life,” and although the talented DJs entertaining are in place to create immediate gratification, the ultimate purpose is to raise money to help in the cause of fighting cancer. The doors will open at 8 p.m., and although a cover charge will be in effect, all fees collected at the door (plus a portion of the bar sales) are being donated to families with members stricken by the disease.

Guests will receive a complimentary buffet between 8 p.m.-10 p.m., with DJs Richie Santana, Jason Ojeda, Ohzee, Rob Mirage, Rob James, Tempo and Meech also on the bill. VIP table reservations are available (call 516-204-5633 for VIP); ticket price is yet-to-be announced, call ahead for details.
