On Oct. 13, some of the best-known DJs on the club circuit will be coming together to not only help a cause, but to also pay respect to a Long Island man who recently lost his battle with lung cancer.

Jeff Galluzzo, 46, of Commack was a husband and father. Galluzzo was born in Deer Park and worked as a teacher in the Island Trees Public School district before becoming the assistant principal at Stanley D. Saltzman East Memorial School in Farmingdale. Also formerly known in the hospitality industry as a DJ (working at such Nassau County clubs as Zachary’s in East Meadow and Paddy McGee's in Island Park), he had also been an athlete, playing soccer at Hofstra University before becoming a youth sports coach. In 2010, Galluzzo was training to compete in a triathlon when he – a non-smoker – was diagnosed with lung cancer.

In a demonstration of support, a number of people who knew Jeff formed a group that calls itself “Team Galluzzo.” The team has worked hard to provide both emotional and financial care for Jeff and his family, and as part of that effort had organized the Oct. 13 fundraiser -- which was to continue the efforts of helping the Galluzzos, while giving Jeff a fun night out – but Mr. Galluzzo, after dozens of medical treatments, succumbed to his illness on Sept. 22.

However, the Team Galluzzo effort is still moving forward, continuing to help Jeff’s family, and the event planned for Oct. 13 is still very much going to take place.

The benefit is known as “Music For Life,” and it’s a special sort of gathering created by a small group of people that work in the hospitality industry, who have formed an unofficial support system designed to help their colleagues when cancer strikes (this is the second such “Music” to take place; the first was held in April of 2012). To be located at Four Food Studio and Cocktail Lounge in Melville, it starts with a session for friends and family between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. A donation will be requested from those attending that first four-hour portion of the night, which will include raffles and complimentary food from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

But after 8 p.m., the scene will transform into a major dance party -- and as a tribute to Jeff, some of the biggest names of the club world are scheduled to take part.

According to the event organizers, the roster of DJs is to include such selectors as Rob James, Motomo315, Rob Mirage, Ohzee, Keith Andrews, Justin Time, Dimitri Tee, TJ & Claudio, Razor & Guido, Jason Ojeda, Theo “DJ Theo” Pisani, Hex Hector and Jonathan Peters – a list of mixers that includes celebrity talents that are not just popular on the Island, but work NYC clubs and beyond – and all will be spinning for free.

Anyone attending after 8 p.m. will be asked to pay $40 at the door, but donations can be made anytime online at For more information, visit Four Food Studio at
