Got the urge to hear original rock and roll music or covers on classics by Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry or Elvis Presley?
You're in luck this weekend. The NewMotorKings, an American rock and roll band based in Brooklyn, will perform three one-hour sets tomorrow night at Skipper's Pub in Northport.
Composed of drummer and singer Frank Funaro of Cracker, singer and guitarist of The Brandos, Frank Giordano, and special guest bassist Sal Maida, of Cracker, the group makes a return to Long Island after a hiatus.
Their sound harks back to a time when rock performances were lively and exciting, Funaro says.
"There should be some sweat involved," he says. "Without trying to insult other people, you can go see bands and they’ll play Elvis Presley songs like it’s old people music, but Elvis Presley captivated teenagers in his day."
Funaro says that he wants to show "that rock and roll is still viable music."
"It’s a very specific genre that’s sort of fallen by the way side. The music swings, and it makes you want to dance,” he says. "We want to play the music the way it was played back then ... We want to execute it with passion.”
