Although Long Island’s nightlife circuit remains a mostly mainstream experience, alternative events continue to pop up regularly -- with a potentially dynamic example of the Island’s underground scene taking place this weekend.
Anyone interested in cutting loose to techno, deep house and other sorts of offbeat beats -- versus the usual pop, hip-hop and other familiar party music playing elsewhere -- should consider a visit to the “Electro Movement” gathering set for June 14 at Revolution Bar & Music Hall in Amityville.
The star of the evening will be Philadelphia-based DJ Nigel Richards – a mixer who has worked venues around the globe, spinning techno, electro and other hard-edge EDM. He’ll be delivering a session -- along with NYC DJ Gaby Noodle and LI selectors Mike Martian and Heather Heart – as part of an evening that is also scheduled to feature a performance by the dancers of Cosmic Hoops, a group that specializes in hooping at raves held in Brooklyn and other parts of the city (as the rave has since returned from a period of relative obscurity after the 1990s to once again become major NYC happenings).
Doors open at 10 p.m.; age of admission is 21 and over, with a likely cover charge ranging $10-$20. For more information, check online at revolutionli.com.
