Leave it to one of Long Island’s coolest spots to find a way – as in “wayfarers” – to appropriately inject something simple and fun into an offbeat concept and make the mix jell.

Come Thursday, April 10, The Cortland in Bay Shore (a pub once deemed to be the coolest on LI by Newsday) is hosting its latest “Cortland Mortgage & Investment Co.” event, a bash where the bar gets decorated like a speakeasy, serves drinks out of paper bags and features live jazz and blues (this time, pianist Jay Orig and bass player David Sacrestano). It starts at 8:30 p.m., and just in case you arrive and aren’t sure if you’ve got the right place, there will be a host dressed in 1920s-style duds at the door to welcome patrons.

All attendees should do their best to be there at the start time, as come 9 p.m. The Cortland will hand out free pairs of custom-made Cortland-monogrammed Wayfarer sunglasses to everybody – a perfect move on the part of a pub recognized as hipster-friendly -- for Wayfarers are considered to be a properly modish accessory (and in this case, may end up becoming an “in-piece” to sport during future visits).
