At this point, just invoking the term "Jersey Shore" brings to mind images of orange skin, spiky hair, fist pumps and a certain best-selling author named Snooki. However, the part of the Garden State that meets the Atlantic was sending other emissaries our way years before The Situation was old enough to even do a sit-up.
They are The Nerds, and pound-for-pound they are hands-down one of the best cover bands to ever grace a Long Island stage. Working the club circuit since 1985, the band has played venues as large as Carnegie Hall, while appearing on TV shows like "The View" and various MTV programs. Dressed in shorts, plaid shirts buttoned to the clavicle and sporting thick spectacles, every show is a high-powered cornucopia of current pop, '80s classics, party jams and rock hits.
Wait, you've never seen them perform live? No worries -- The Nerds are back on the Island and playing the Nutty Irishman in Bay Shore on Saturday, March 26 starting at 9 p.m. Cover is $10 for a 21-and-over crowd.
