If you have a particular “gift,” and have been looking for a chance to share that skill — whatever that skill may be — with a crowd of onlookers, consider reaching out to Sip This in order to join the Valley Stream coffeehouse’s latest experiment: a talent show.
Already known as a venue that frequently hosts creative and unusual events, the bean-roasting spot located at 64 Rockaway Ave. will be trying out its first-ever talent competition on Sunday, Oct. 19. The rules of what constitutes “talent” worthy of participation in this "Sip" show are pretty loose, as ownership says anything goes. Running over a three-hour stretch, anyone interested can register as a solo act or as part of a group, with the performers battling head-to-head — while being judged on talent, articulation, likeability, and stage presence — all for the possibility of scoring some (yet to be announced) prizes.
Hosted by Sip This’s Joe Pontillo (who also leads the venue’s open mic night, held on every other Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.), the entry fee is $25 for either single or duo acts, while sets of three or four pay $40. Everything starts at 2 p.m.; to sign up call 516-341-0491 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
