Ask anyone who regularly spends many a late night out and about around Long Island in the wintertime and they are likely to agree: there have been some brutally cold evenings so far in 2013.
Of course, winters on LI are usually chilly times, especially after the sun has gone down -- but over in Rockville Centre there’s a party happening this weekend that is inspired by warmer months on the island … the island of Maui, that is.
Saturday, Feb. 23, marks the return of the “Winter Luau” at McFadden's RVC, and for those who haven’t attended this event before, the night should be similar to the usual boisterous, dancing-on-the-bar-style bashes this party bar is known for – except on this occasion many guests and employees will be wearing Hawaiian shirts and grass skirts. Anyone who attends dressed in such attire will be granted free admission. Expect a likely cover charge of around $5-$10 otherwise.
In addition, there will be drink specials (including $10 “beach pail” beverages), DJ C Mos spinning pop, hip-hop, dance, classics and more, plus Polynesian-powered pub games like the limbo and a Hula-Hoop contest – not to mention the giveaway of leis, which will net the female patron that sports the most at the end a $100 bar credit to boot.
Doors open at 9 p.m. for a 21-and-over crowd (a generally young set; mainly 21-29 year-olds). For more information, check out McFadden’s RVC online at mcfaddensrvc.com or facebook.com/mcfaddens.rockvillecentre.
