March has been an important month for some of LI’s seasonal venues, like Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett, Dockers Waterside in East Quogue, and Rooftop 32 in Rockville Centre. These warm-weather destinations have either already opened or at least announced a business return scheduled to take place before April arrives.
Now one of Freeport’s waterside spots can brag that it too scoffs at the unhinged temperatures that have been forcing Long Islanders to keep their winter clothes out of storage (despite the fact that Thursday, March 20 is the vernal equinox) as Wildfish is reopening for 2014 this weekend.
Although it started serving its new menu on Thursday, March 13, the official grand opening is Sunday, March 16. Wildfish is celebrating by offering complimentary appetizers and drink specials ($3 bottled beer, $4 drafts; starting at 2:30 p.m.) as part of an outdoor event that will also feature live music from cover band The Mystic.
No worries that the temperatures off adjacent Hudson Canal will be hard to cope with, as everything will be taking place in a heated tent. A $25 three-course prix fixe consisting of St. Patrick’s Day-inspired food will also be available, both on Sunday and Monday, March 17.
Wildfish: 507 Guy Lombardo Ave., Freeport, 516-442-0565.
