In August the tony Hamptons restaurant scene is in full swing, but Friday the East End will host an event of a distinctly different culinary stripe: The Great Food Truck Derby, organized by the locavore Edible magazines (Edible East End and Edible Manhattan) will take place on the grounds of the Hayground School in Bridgehampton. Proceeds will benefit the school and its Jeff’s Kitchen, a program to educate children in growing and preparing fresh food.
More than a dozen food trucks will be in attendance, plus wine from Duck Walk Vineyards and Peconic Bay Winery, beer from Southampton Publick House and Brooklyn Brewery, and assorted soft drinks.
Among the trucks are:
MONTACO (Montauk) serving tacos (sauteed mahi-mahi, chicken in salsa verde and zucchini-corn) and cucumber-lime juice
RICKSHAW DUMPLINGS (Manhattan) serving pork-chive dumplings, chicken-Thai basil dumplings, vegetarian edamame dumplings
THE WANDERING PALATE (Southold) serving quiche, croque monsieur, onion tart, savory tartines and crepes
SILVER SPOON SPECIALTIES (East Hampton) serving barbecued pulled pork sliders with creamy coleslaw
SWEETTAUK LEMONADE TRUCK (Montauk) serving On the menu: Watermelon-cucumber lemonade and sun tea lemonade
The Hayground School is on Mitchells Lane, Bridgehampton and the derby runs from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $50 and entitle the bearer to a serving from every truck, plus unlimited beverages. Children’s tickets ($20 for kids 12 and under) are good for five tastes. For more information or to buy tickets online click here. Tickets will also be sold at the gate.
