After relocating from its longtime Greenlawn address to new quarters a couple of miles south, the new Dave’s Goldmine Mexican Grill remains essentially what it’s always been — a standby for fresh and flavorful Tex-Mex fare. The place, situated in a little strip mall, now has a rear parking lot. Inside, the place looks brighter and newer, although not all that different from its predecessor. There's seating for about 14.

On a recent visit, I gravitated to the chicken stew platter ($8.99), which turned out to be virtually identical to the version recalled from before the move. The tarragon-scented chunks of softly stewed white and dark meat poultry were served over basmati rice and accompanied by black beans, shredded lettuce and pico de gallo. The only difference was that instead of sour cream (which I requested withheld), there was a dollop of the eatery’s smooth guacamole. My companion’s choice, vegetable chili ($8.99), also served in a plastic compartmentalized tray, hadn’t been altered a whit, either.

Owner Dave Bermejo said that although he’s tried to introduce a few more authentic Mexican specialties — I’d have jumped at a soft corn tongue taco — most everybody wants their old favorites. Among those: a Mexi-melt burrito made with chicken ($6.99), a grilled steak crunchy taco ($2.55), a Cajun chicken taco bowl salad ($7.99) and a refried bean quesadilla ($6.69).

Dave’s Goldmine Mexican Grill is at 233-B Broadway, Huntington, 631-262-1775.
