It seems if you just blink, the Rockville Centre restaurant scene reconfigures itself. Today's newcomer is Gyro Boss, whose Aegean blue-and-white color scheme replaces the once red and yellow space of the former Cheese Please.
Co-owner James Fotedis defined the place as “authentic Greek food made by authentic Greek people,” some of whom are relatives. Upon questioning him, I learned the gyro meat is not made from scratch in-house but is rotisserie roasted there, before being sliced to order. The place offers two kinds, ground lamb with beef, or chicken.
Fotedis said he's particularly proud of such house-made specialties as spinach pie ($4.95 appetizer, $11.50 dinner platter) and baklava ($3.65). The namesake gyro may be had as a sandwich on pita ($5.95) or as a platter ($12.50 dinner).
Gyro Boss is at 1A N. Park Ave., Rockville Centre; 516-442-4111.
