The new Good Eats Cafe in Amityville is a restaurant with a mission. Our goal is to let people know that you can eat healthy and that it can still be delicious, said John Munson, co-owner and manager of the eatery, which offers both table and counter service. It replaces the former Muscle Maker Grill.

Chef Chris Nestro, who cooked at Bobby Vans in both Manhattan and JFK, doesnt use butter in his cooking just extra-virgin olive oil or an olive-oil/canola blend. All dressings are low in fat, and all except the Caesar are house-made. Locally grown produce is used whenever possible, with meat and fish purchased at local markets. Salt is used sparingly.

Registered dietitian Sofia Gourlides works on weekly meal plans for diners, with every item broken down nutritionally. Meals weighing in at under 600 calories are made that day and can be either delivered within a 5-mile radius or picked up.

On the reasonably priced cafe menu ($6 to $15) are such items as a grilled shrimp salad, three beet salad, grilled vegetable salad, goat cheese and arugula flatbread, blackened chicken panino, lean beef burger, blackened salmon and Mediterranean chicken.

Good Eats Cafe is at 80 Merrick Rd., Amityville, 631-464-4277.
