Saturday, the Hicksville Fire Department is hosting a barbecue rib competition, and the winner will be determined by the ticket-buying public. Here’s how it works: $5 buys three tickets, each of which is good for one rib from any of the dozen or so teams competing. Then vote for the rib you liked best. Want more ribs? Buy another ticket. You can buy as many tickets as you like, and at the end of the day, the team with the most votes wins.
Among the teams expected will be Grill Scouts of Babylon, Smoking Irish of Bay Shore, Smoke 'N Barrel of Seaford, BBQ Brethren of Nesconset. They'll be prepping and smoking all morning, and the ribs should be ready for sampling around 1 p.m. By 4 p.m., it'll all be over.
All proceeds go the Hicksville Fire Department and a local burn center.
The battle is joined at the Long Island Rail Road's Hicksville station, near the intersection of Route 106.
