In Huntington, where you can't swing a chopstick without hitting an Asian restaurant, Kashi Sushi Lounge is poising to launch Saturday night in the space that last housed Elm Street Eatery.
I stopped in to pick up a menu and learned that the sleek, sexy-looking spot is under the same ownership as Hotoke Japanese Steak House in Smithtown.
The menu reads like a litany of Asian fusion musts, from rock shrimp tempura ($8) to ornate sushi rolls (like “Sex on the Beach” – shrimp tempura and spicy tuna with a soy nori wrap topped with salmon, tuna and avocado, $14) to an entree of sesame-crusted tuna steak with wakame risotto ($24).
Lunch looks to be a good value, with complete meal boxes, at $15, featuring such combos as rib-eye steak teriyaki with crispy calamari and a choice of gyoza or shumai. Any two rolls, with soup or salad, costs $8; any three, $11.
Interestingly, Kashi is situated right next door to Bonbori, another Japanese restaurant (that also serves Thai food).
Sushi wars? We'll have to wait and see.
Kashi Sushi Lounge is at 12 Elm St., Huntington, 631-923-1960.
