It wasn't quite 9 a.m. when I found myself in Huntington -- and hungry. Not having eaten a bite yet, I wanted something quick but not major.
Luckily, I came upon the new Chip 'n Dipped All Natural Cookies & Chocolate, recently relocated from a small shop on East Main Street to a beautiful new space on New York Avenue. The sign outside read: “Cookies, Chocolate, Coffee.”
Inside were a few cafe tables. In addition to a showcase filled with cookies and chocolates was a small display with exactly what I craved: muffins. Upon inquiring, I learned from baker Roberta Goldfarb that she had not only made those but all the other baked goods. Goldfarb's son, Peter, is the shop's owner and chocolatier. Her husband, Art, is in charge of the coffee, the counter and the website.
I asked Golfdarb whether the muffins had been made with fresh fruit. "A combination of fresh and frozen," she answered quite honestly, adding that they, like everything else she baked, were "all-natural."
Unlike so many of the preservative-laden muffins out there, these tasted – well, real. Moist and fruity, too. My decaf coffee turned out to be a full-bodied surprise made, I later learned, with an espresso-based roast.
