I stuck a last fork in the fondue just before 9 p.m., or about 7 hours before a fire wiped out the kitchen at XO Wine & Chocolate Bar this morning. You can read about the blaze here.
It wasn't a great meal. Actually it wasn't exactly good, either, small plates to large, limp shrimp to pasty pasta. Maybe there really was something wrong with the stovetop -- but I digress.
Seriously, XO was/is part of a big revival of the restaurant business in downtown Huntington. In the past few months, at least 10 new eateries have sprouted in what already was the dining-out hub of Suffolk. In Nassau, only Rockville Centre gives Huntington competition in the quantity-quality department.
So, I hope XO returns soon. And that the food improves, too. Meantime, I'm sure everyone there could use, and deserves, a glass of wine, maybe more.
XO was/is at 24 Clinton Ave., Huntington; 631-923-2224.
XO, as it appeared earlier this year.
