Big food is a big draw at many Long Island Italian restaurants, where individual servings may be sufficient for a small family.

Before calling the food police, understand that nobody's being forced to clean their plates. And what goes home in the doggy bag (or carton) may be enough for a couple of days of meals.

Here are just four of the many Long Island Italian restaurants that feed you generously.

RIELLA'S HOMESTYLE, 3103-3105 N. Jerusalem Rd., Levittown, 516-719-5333

Although you can order in both individual and family-style portions, bear in mind that most single servings easily feed two. Two standouts: a lush eggplant Parmigiana and a veal Marsala that is generous with both meat and mushrooms.

MAMA MIA OF NORTHPORT, 395 Fort Salonga Rd., Northport, 631-651-5015

Expect to leave with leftovers at this primo spot for Parms. Hard to decide between the fork-tender chicken or the lush eggplant. Spaghetti and meatballs and linguine with white clam sauce both hit the spot.

CARNIVAL, 4900 Nesconset Hwy., Port Jefferson, Station, 631-473-9772

Gargantuan portions are the rule at this Italian favorite, where a bowl of pasta e fagioli seems more like a tureen. Mammoth pork chops alla Carnival, with cherry peppers and potatoes, is a dish at once wondrous and weighty.

GINO'S OF KINGS PARK, 52 Indian Head Rd., Kings Park, 631-269-2880

Immoderate portions are the rule at this newcomer. Both the butternut squash soup and pasta e fagioli are meal-sized; Parms and pastas could easily feed two.
