A major transformation going down at Mrs. Brown’s Kitchen & Grill in Kings Park, soon to have a name change. The place recently came under the chef-ownership of Steve Cardello, former executive chef of Grey Horse Tavern in Bellport (which is now under the aegis of chef Meredith Machamer).
Cardello is transforming the place into a farm-to-table spot and is currently making his own sausage, buying fish and produce from the local Kings Park farmers market as well as bringing in tomatoes, lettuce, zucchini, and other vegetables from a variety of East End farms. Cardello's menu, right now, is a transitional one — not the same as it was under previous ownership but still developing. Cardello expects to switch things up according to the season and the market. What he won't be changing is the freshly renovated interior.
Currently, the restaurant is open daily for breakfast and lunch and serves dinner Wednesday to Saturday.
A new awning and sign — the place will be called “Relish” — should be ready late August, Cardello says.
