The outside is unprepossessing, but inside the narrow storefront on Middle Neck Road in Great Neck is a sleek new addition to the restaurant scene, Krung Tep Thai Bistro. "Krung Tep" is actually the Thai name for the city of Bangkok.

With its white tufted leather banquettes and interlaced wood wall designs,  Krung Tep, the only all-Thai restaurant in town, is owned by husband-wife team Andy Hamill and Duk Saejung, with partner Pei-Pei Sirikanya as head chef. The couple lived in Thailand and also has a background in food catering in Iceland.

Krung Tep’s menu  features classic dishes, like tom yum soup with its tangy and herbal broth ($7), pad Thai,  ($15), and pineapple fried rice ($12). Thai green, red, massamam and Panang are the curry dish choices ($12), and those looking to order fish can get crispy whole red snapper or a whole striped bass wrapped and grilled in a banana leaf.  For dessert, a sweet sticky rice and mango dish, usually served in Thailand only in summer, is available. No liquor license yet, so BYOB. Delivery and takeout available.
