La Cucina brings to Hewlett the Italian-New American repertoire of Peter Curcio, who was chef/co-owner of the former Heirloom in Locust Valley and also cooked at Corbin & Reynolds in Long Beach.
On his menu: grilled octopus ($12), basil-marinated grilled jumbo shrimp with a portobello-tomato-mozzarella stack ($23), oven-roasted rack of lamb ($28) and gnocchi with eggplant, zucchini and sun-dried tomatoes ($17).
A three-course sunset prix-fixe dinner, at $24.95 a person, runs Sunday to Thursday night and features, among first-course choices, a Caesar salad, a second-course option of grilled salmon with spinach risotto and, as a dessert possibility, date and raisin bread pudding.
The restaurant is attached to — yet entirely separate from — Alfie's II, a pizzeria under the same ownership.
La Cucina is at 1241 Broadway, Hewlett, 516-837-0475.
