Did you make your pilgrimage to Nelly's Taqueria in Hicksville for the weekend-only tacos al pastor? Food reporter Erica Marcus tells us “it’s the rare Long Island taqueria that makes tacos al pastor the traditional way: with pork that has been roasted on a vertical spit.” The restaurant also offers homemade corn tortillas. Check out the video here.

In other news, there’s a new Jewish-style deli in Seaford, Pastrami Express, that’s brining and smoking meats in house. And speaking of sandwiches, Roast Sandwich House, a hero among Melville lunch spots, has opened a second location in Hicksville.

Over in Merrick, SALT will open on the water around Memorial Day, around the same time as Grey Lady in Montauk. In Long Beach, LB Social has replaced Sugo.

Burgers are among top cravings, with Melissa McCart’s ranking of the burger chains listed here. Or, for a more refined patty, head to the recently opened Off the Block in Sayville.

Over in Syosset, Platia Greek Kitchen may have overcome the curse of Berry Hill Road. It’s the 12th restaurant to occupy this location since 2001, and it could be a keeper, says critic Peter Gianotti.

Later this week, look out for his review of Bar Louie in Commack and Melissa McCart’s take on Slurp Ramen in Port Jefferson.
