Local’s Cafe opened in Port Jefferson two weeks ago and is making coffee a priority.
Before the cafe opened, reps from Seattle-based Caffe Vita came in to train Local’s staff on making espresso, cappuccino and lattes. It will also serve cold brew.
Owned by husband-wife team Jiten and Amarilis Singh, Local’s features a small menu including a Bombay egg sandwich, frittata and avocado toast as well as sandwiches and salads. Prices run from $2.95 to $10.95.
The Singhs moved to the community just over two years ago — Amarilis had been working in Puerto Rico and Jiten in India — and fell in love with the walkable downtown. While Singh has been an investor in restaurants, this is the couple’s first place of their own.
“We wanted both of our cultures to be represented in the menu,” said Amarilis Singh, citing Puerto Rican-inspired dishes from her upbringing and Indian herbs and preparations from her husband’s.
The hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
Local’s Cafe is at 106 E. Main St. Port Jefferson; 631-509-0627.
