In this week’s Newsday, critic Peter M. Gianotti reviews Painters in Brookhaven, whose first incarnation was ravaged by a fire in 2012. “But it’s back,” he writes, “with a flavorful, all-purpose menu, if not the old pool table” and chef Luis Marin, “an energized orchestra leader in the open kitchen, turning out a wide variety of casual dishes.”

Critic Joan Reminick visits Rockville Centre’s GM Burger Bar, “a handsome, popular addition to the George Martin Restaurant Group” which, after a rocky start a few months back, has established itself as a dependable purveyor of casual meals — burger-based and burger-less.
