In this week’s Newsday Peter Gianotti reviews Morrison’s in Plainview, the gastropub that takes over the space that used to be Red Fish. “Exit, kung pao calamari; enter, shrimp and grits.” Gianotti writes that “the spirited newcomer is run by Shelby Poole and co-chef Harry Poole, who also operate Jackson's in Commack.”

Joan Reminick visits Javier’s Café in Smithtown, a breakfast-lunch place owned by chef-owner Edgar “Javier” Viera. Viera, who cooked at the nearby Maureen’s Kitchen, she writes, “offers many of the same dishes he made there,” among them, lush and well-wrought omelets.
