Laurel Luncheonette & Restaurant, a Long Beach standby since 1932, has reopened following what co-owner Andrew Loucas called “a total gut renovation.” The eatery, situated in a building that housed an old movie theater, was redesigned in an art deco look that reflects its history.
The menu has also been streamlined and updated. Now, Loucas said, the place is using a prime beef blend from Pat LaFrieda Meat Purveyors for burgers served on brioche buns. Varieties now include the Reuben burger ($11.25), topped with hot pastrami, sauerkraut and Swiss, as well as the chipotle chorizo burger ($10.95), with chorizo sausage, pepper jack cheese and chipotle sauce.
Other new menu items include a spinach quinoa salad ($12.25), lobster roll ($15.95) and “veganista” sandwich ($11.95) featuring avocado, hummus and vegetables on ciabatta. While the entree roster looks largely unchanged, you an now get a fruit pie in a mug ($7.25) for dessert. Breakfast additions include Oreo pancakes ($9.95) and a Mexicana omelet ($11.25).
The place is open from 6 a.m. to midnight daily.
Laurel Luncheonette & Restaurant is at 300 W. Park Ave., Long Beach, 516- 432-7728.
