Marc Bynum doesn’t want to spend a lot of time shuttling between his businesses, so he located his second eatery around the corner from the first one. Soup-or-Hero Kitchen, a casual takeout spot that just opened in Farmingdale, is about 100 yards from Bynum’s 2-year-old Hush Bistro, a Top 100 Newsday pick. It’s closer if you go from back door to back door through the parking lot.

Soup-or-Hero’s lunch menu features 10 sandwiches, $10 to $16, including the BBQ-Brisket with 36-hour-smoked brisket, pickled cabbage and chipotle BBQ sauce; Aquaman with poached salmon, house-cured salmon, caper tapenade and cucumber dill sauce; Super Mario with chicken confit, oven-roasted tomato, broccoli rabe and fresh mozzarella.

The five salads, $9 to $10, include arugula with pumpkin seed, pickled onion, shaved fennel and cider vinaigrette; and kale and quinoa with red onion, tomato, craisins, feta and citrus vinaigrette.

There are four daily soups ($5), nine smoothies ($9) and two bowls (acai with granola and fruit, $8, and chia seed with coconut milk and fruit, $11).

For breakfast, Bynum brings in fancy doughnuts ($3.50) from Dough, the cult Brooklyn bakery. Customers looking for more fiber and protein can order a bowl of steel-cut oats and a hard-boiled egg ($5). Coffee is supplied by Georgio’s Coffee Roasters of Farmingdale.

Soup-or-Hero Kitchen is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday to Saturday. It’s at 396 Conklin St., Farmingdale, 516-927-8484.
