Mixologists from Dante in NYC to take over Highway Restaurant & Bar in East Hampton for pop-up event

A spritz in hand is as summerlike as it gets. On an outdoor deck, even more so.

From June 23 to 25, Highway Restaurant & Bar in East Hampton will merge those emblems of summer. That weekend, staff from the Greenwich Village bar, Dante, will head east to take over the bar at Highway, pouring a menu of gin-based Negronis, fizzy spritzes and other aperitivos, which is the Italian term for before-dinner drinks that whet the appetite and stimulate digestion.

Two years ago, the iconic New York City espresso bar, Caffe Dante, reinvented itself as a restaurant with both classic and inventive aperitivos at its bar. Among the drinks the Dante staff will bring to East Hampton are the Sgroppino spritz, a slushy blend of sparkling rosé with Aperol spritz-flavored sorbet from Brooklyn’s OddFellows Ice Cream Co.

Dubbed the #SummerofSpritz pop-up, the event will begin at 4 p.m. Friday to Sunday. Selfies likely encouraged.
