It's the time of pumpkin picking, corn mazes, and all those apples. Here are three restaurants near the fields and orchards that will energize you.

Modern Snack Bar in Aquebogue, in business since Truman was president, is a homey, casual eatery for the whole family. It has a genuine, old-fashioned style and is especially fun in autumn. Recommended: lobster salad, Key lime-garlic oysters, chicken croquettes, fried flounder sandwich, bacon cheeseburger, meat loaf, loin of pork, sauerbraten, egg cream, all pies. Moderate.

La Piazza in Melville is the near-the-farm branch of this casual Italian restaurant group. Dependably fine, whether you're in a hurry or ready to relax. Recommended: baked clams, meatballs, pizzettes that include Margherita and five cheese, pasta e fagioli, minestrone, wedge salad, cavatelli Bolognese, eggplant rollatini, lemon sole served meunière or oreganata, cheeseburgers, pork chops with vinegar peppers. Moderate.

Sabrosa Mexican Grill in Water Mill is an informal stop in pumpkin country with a mix-and-match, pick-your-own protein and fillings menu. Recommended: mahi-mahi  tacos, tacos with carnitas or barbacoa, burritos, burrito bowl, quesadillas, salads, chicken-and-corn chowder, vegetarian chili, turkey chili, jalapeno-and-lime salsa, tomatillo salsa, chips and guacamole. Moderate.
