Thanks to wireless internet access, I greet you from the jury room at King's County Supreme Court where I am poised to take part in American democracy--or, better yet, be dismissed at the end of the day.
On my walk to court this morning I cased the area for lunch options and was happy to be reminded that there's a Morton's The Steakhouse right door. So, after a few hours of sitting around in a few different rooms, I headed to Morton's.
Sat at the roomy bar and started with the Morton's salad, a huge pile of iceberg and romaine in a tangy blue-cheese dressing with chopped egg and two anchovies crossed on top. This salad took me happily back to the days before mesclun and candied pecans and dried cranberries and everything else I hate about modern salads.
Next, Morton's burger which I got with steamed broccoli instead of fries. (Thankfully the waitress gave me a small pitcher of Hollandaise sauce to anoint it with.) The burger was a gi-normous lump of meat, well salted, nicely seared, shirt-stainingly juicy.
Having passed judgement on lunch, bring on the defendants!
On the Island, Morton's is at 777 Northern Blvd., Great Neck, 516-498-2950.
