Crazy Fish Bar & Grill in Port Jefferson rebrands as Nantuckets

A 17-month-old Port Jefferson restaurant is wearing a new face, but its fins remain intact.

Crazy Fish Bar & Grill has a new chef team, a new menu — albeit one that is still seafood-centric — and a new name, Nantuckets.

“We kept evolving, and felt we needed to change the name, because we are more than a bar and grill,” said Stacy Gertz, who co-owns the restaurant with her husband, Richard Gertz. “We were ignited to make changes when our food became inconsistent.”

Chef Michael Heinlein heads the new culinary team, said Gertz, and the new twists on seafood dishes include cornmeal-fried oysters with tomato-bacon relish, crème fraîche and caviar ($13) and Parmesan-crusted Atlantic cod with creamy leeks, lobster and cannellini-bean ragout ($28).

Breads and desserts are now made in house, and vegetarians can go for spring rolls stuffed with roasted mushrooms, sautéed kale, sweet corn, butternut squash, Vermont white cheddar cheese with a sesame-ginger glaze ($11).

Heinlein has seen the insides of many Long Island kitchens, including Publicans in Manhasset, The Grill and Casa Mia in Hauppauge and Our Table in Northport.

Stacy and Richard Gertz opened Crazy Fish Bar & Grill in 2016 after running Huntington Station’s Panama Hatties for 16 years before selling it in 2004. Crazy Fish earned one-and-a-half stars from Newsday.

Nantuckets is open daily for dinner from 4 p.m. to closing, with weekend brunch beginning in late February from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Weekday lunch will eventually be added, Gertz said.
