True North, a New American restaurant from the former chef at Swallow in Huntington, is expected to open soon at the downtown site of the departed Vitae.

Paul Miranda, whose cooking earned a two-and-a-half-star rating at Swallow in 2014, said he's "shooting for mid-August" to open the restaurant. An overhaul is under way, including the decor. Owner-chef Miranda sees True North as "rustic city chic," from tin ceiling to repurposed wood. He described the forthcoming menu as "eclectic."

Miranda, a Brookville resident, was chef at Swallow for two years.

True North will be at 54 New St., Huntington. Before Vitae opened there, the corner spot was occupied for decades by Abel Conklin's.
