Fiorello Dolce, the Huntington bakery that created the cross between a French doughnut and a bagel known as the "Frenagel," is experimenting with three more varieties.
Expect the Frenomena soon.
The original Frenagel is made with the dough used for the flaky, richly filled French doughnut. It's sliced and filled with whipped scallion cream cheese, and topped with sesame seeds, poppy seeds and sea salt. Cost: $3.95 each.
Generation two of the Frenagel is expected to include a black sesame-seed capped version, with red and green pepper-and-carrot cream cheese; and a maple candied walnut-crowned rendition with cinnamon-raisin cream cheese that's also more savory than sweet. A third under consideration: rosemary and sea salt on top, green olive in the cream cheese.
The first two may be available as early as this weekend.
