It’s small. It's orange. It's in Hicksville. It’s Tangerine, a quirky little spot with a quirky little menu.
Basically, there are three items. You can get all-natural frozen yogurt made with fresh fruit. Fresh fruit smoothies, too. And – the reason I went – kati rolls.
The two I tried were very good, although not in the league of the departed (and greatly missed) Aminia of Calcutta. One was chicken on paratha. The boneless chunks, cooked in a pan with a highly seasoned sauce, was good and spicy, as requested. The warm, flaky paratha, while not house-made, was also appealing. I was told I could also get a "whole grain" kati roll. Translation: on a whole wheat tortilla. Even so, the wrap, done with a filling of spiced potatoes and paneer (cheese), proved satisfying.
So did the light, fruity-fresh mango yogurt. A three-fruit smoothie (I got mango, peach and pineapple) was a cool treat on a warm day.
Tangerine is at 136 Broadway, Hicksville, 516-622-4439
