Thursday night was the grand opening of Asian Bistro Next Door in Woodbury, the restaurant and lounge that has branched off of sibling venue Graffiti, located in the adjacent space (thus the "Next Door" in its name).
While the kitchen is serving a menu of various small plates and entrees born of Chinese and Japanese inspiration, those seeking an upscale night out now have a new — and hidden — place to party come Thursday and weekend evenings.
There's an outside patio for drinks come the warmer weather. Inside there's a full bar and dining space. Starting Thursday at 9 p.m., a DJ will play subdued electronic music, while mixologists offer up several sakes and a cocktail menu inspired by the animals that represent the different cycles of years of the Chinese calendar.
For example, under the heading of the Ox, one can find a Screaming Ninja — a beverage built from Bombay Sapphire gin, dry vermouth, orange juice, olive and bell pepper — while representing the Dragon is the Crouching Tiger made with Patrón Reposado, St. Germain liqueur and ginger.
Bottle service is also available, and while the rates don't reach the incredibly lofty Hamptons-type pricing, selections run from a 750 ml. bottle of Absolute vodka for $275 to a same-size Louis Roederer Cristal Rose for $1,750 — while VIP table service packages start at $425 for 6 guests and top out at $8,800 for 20.
But what makes this late-night lounge especially unique is its location, practically hidden within the Woodbury Commons. Completely invisible to traffic on Jericho Turnpike, it's primed to offer a secret (sort-of) hideaway for those in the know.
Furthermore, ABND will be staying open until 2 a.m. on weekends, allowing the patrons of Graffiti to shift their good times one venue over once that bar shuts down at midnight.
Asian Bistro Next Door is at 8285 Jericho Tpke., Woodbury, 516-367-266.
