Mark your calendars. One of the North Fork’s signature events returns for its 10th year on Sunday, Sept. 11: the 2016 Foodie Tour, sponsored by North Fork Reform Synagogue.

Tickets are required, but the tour is self-guided, taking visitors to more than a dozen farms and vineyards and affording them the opportunity to meet artisans and chefs who turn the region’s agricultural bounty into some of Long Island’s most celebrated foods.

Returning participants include 8 Hands Farm in Cutchogue, specializing in Icelandic sheep, Tamworth pigs and heritage-breed chickens; Koppert Cress, the vast micro-vegetable greenhouse operation in Cutchogue that normally is not open to visitors; Ty Llwyd Farm in Jamesport, Long Island’s only certified raw-milk dairy farm; Browder’s Birds in Mattituck, the chicken farm that now boasts Long Island’s only mobile poultry processing facility; Catapano Dairy Farm in Peconic, producer of award-winning goat cheese; Lavender by the Bay in East Marion; North Fork Roasting Company in Southold, small-batch coffee roasters; Sang Lee Farms in Peconic, specializing in exotic organic vegetables; The Farm in Southold, Long Island’s only biodynamic farm; Greenport Harbor Brewery in Peconic; Shinn Estate Vineyards in Mattituck; Macari Vineyards in Mattituck.

New this year is Deep Roots Farm in Southold, focusing on pastured-raised meats, heirloom vegetables and eggs.

Tour headquarters is at the Peconic Land Trust’s Agricultural Center at Charnews Farm in Southold. Throughout the day talks will be given by John Ross, legendary North Fork chef, Melissa Henrey of the Farm Beyond, who increased her interest in foraged food while living in Normandy, France; John Quigley of East End Mushroom; Captain Phil Karlin of Greenport’s North Fork Smoked Fish.

The tour runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11. Tickets can be purchased on the day of the tour at any Foodie Tour location. Buy tickets in advance by clicking here or at Gallery M in Greenport, Complement the Chef in Southold, Mattituck Florist, Barth’s Drugstore in Riverhead and, on the South Fork, at Southampton Books. Tickets may be purchased by mail at NFRS, P.O. Box 1625, Southold, N.Y. 11971.

The cost is $25 per person; children younger than 12 tour for free. For more information, call 631-722-5712 or go to
