The circle is complete. Bistro M’s chef-owner and general manager have decamped to Albertson where, two weeks ago, they opened the eponymous Mitch & Toni’s. And the former Bistro M has been transformed into Saffron, characterized by chef-owner John Forte as “affordable fine dining.”
Forte, a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu in Miami, had worked in Bistro M’s kitchen and, before that, at North Hills Country Club. His menu is a contemporary mix of New American and Mediterranean with French, Italian and Asian accents and, of course, local and seasonal products. (Saffron is about three miles from Rottkamp’s farm and Forte intends to exploit that proximity.) Main courses hover in the high $20s. Click here for the menu.
The dining room has undergone a sprucing up, the bar some cosmetic surgery.
Saffron is at 70 Glen Head Rd., Glen Head, 516-609-9600.
