Barrier Brewing Co. of Oceanside was named best brewery in New York State at the 14th annual TAP NewYork Brewers Festival.
The brewery, established in 2009, is run by Evan Klein and Craig Frymark. (Here's a recent Newsday profile.) Among Barrier's brews are Ruthless Rye IPA, Greenroom Pale Ale and Lights Out Stout. Forty-one breweries participated in the TAP NewYork event.
Barrier Brewing is open to the public on Saturday, noon to 4 p.m., at 3595 Lawson Blvd., Oceanside; 516-316-4429.
And don't forget, tomorrow marks the start of Long Island Craft Beer Week, which goes from May 13 to May 20. Events include a breakfast with the brewers, an awards gala and cooking-with-beer classes. Net proceeds are distributed to local and national charities.
