As small as a bento box (and just about as cute), the new Yume Sushi Cafe in Deer Park has all the basics: A sushi bar. A sushi chef. A few tables. While takeout predominates, one can stay and dine comfortably.
That's what I did on a recent afternoon before heading off to the nearby Tanger Outlets at the Arches. After ordering at the counter, a pal and I waited a bit; both our sushi and sodas were brought to the table by a waiter.
We shared three rolls: salmon and avocado ($4.50), spicy tuna ($4.50) and the more ornate “red hot dragon” ($10.95, tuna and avocado inside; spicy tuna with tempura flakes on top). Everything was fresh and attractive, but both the rice and the fish were too cold.
Note to half the sushi chefs on Long Island: Temperature matters.
Yume Sushi Cafe is at 297C Bayshore Rd., Deer Park, 631-242-8188.
