New to Franklin Square is the Starving Artist Café and Gallery, which makes its home in a Cape Cod house that last hosted a bar. The multipurpose spot is furnished with an artsy mix of upholstered and wood furnishings.
Jeff Ceraso, who co-owns the table-service cafe with his wife, Carol Ceraso, and sister-in-law Diane DiNicola, said the cafe's gallery showcases the work of local artists, with exhibits changing regularly. There’s also entertainment on weekends as well as art-centered events.
On chef Carol Ceraso’s lunch and dinner menu: citrus shrimp salad ($13.95), eggplant wrap ($8.99), chicken pesto panino ($8.99), Florentine flatbread ($8.95), hamburger with hand-cut fries ($9.99) and fried zucchini ($6.95). There are daily specials as well as freshly ground coffee and tea, and beer and wine. A few desserts are house made, but most are from an outside source.
Starving Artist Café and Gallery is at 1045 Tulip Ave., Franklin Square, 516-358-2233.
