Kabuki Japanese Cuisine brings to downtown Lindenhurst something it’s long needed: a sushi place. When I stopped by on a recent afternoon, the simple storefront was rolling out the sushi at a steady pace.
A lunch special started with ho-hum miso soup and a standard green salad with gloppy orange dressing. But the meal took a decided upturn when my sushi and sashimi combo ($15.95) arrived. On the plate: salmon, tuna, striped bass, fluke and a salmon-avocado roll (subbed at my request for a spicy tuna roll). Everything was fresh and — a real plus — both fish and rice were served at proper room temperature. Having been faced, in the past, with icy sushi and rice, this was a lunch to appreciate.
Also on the menu: iku maru (grilled calamari with enoki mushrooms and a spicy cream sauce, $7.95), pork katsu ($14.95) and shrimp yaki udon ($11.95)
Kabuki Japanese Cuisine is at 183 S. Wellwood Ave., Lindenhurst, 631-226-8688.
