Vroom, vroom. Joe’s Garage and Grill is now running on a full tank in Riverhead. The new race car-themed dining spot, which also has a music scene, faces onto the municipal lot off Peconic Avenue. True to its name, it’s equipped with garage doors, which open to outdoor seating in view of the Peconic River.
Inside, the place is decorated with racing memorabilia from NASCAR and Riverhead Raceway. A car lift, which rises out of the floor, functions as a stage. There’s also a track over the bar with two cars racing around it.
In charge of the kitchen — which is equipped with a smoker — is Brian Burner, executive chef of the former Brian Scott’s American Grill in Miller Place. On his menu: “high octane” chicken wings ($9.95), a “Model T” burger ($9.95), a chopped salad ($8.95), a pulled pork sandwich ($10.95), St. Louis ribs ($10.95 quarter rack; $18.95 half rack), smoked turkey potpie ($16.95) and a brownie “spare tire” with salted caramel ice cream and wild berry sauce ($6).
